Configuration of Pretty Weather

  1. Log in to the back-end (administrator) of Joomla with a Super User account. You usually find it at https://<yourdomain>/administrator/. Then click System in the menu on the left, as in steps 2 and 3 of the first manual.
  2. In the block Manage, click Site Modules (1).

Joomla 6 System Dashboard, Manage, Site Modules
  3. The installation has added a module called Pretty Weather. It is not published yet and has no position. Click its title (1).

    • Change the Title (1), for example to The weather.
    • With Title on the right (2) you choose whether the title is shown on the website: Show or Hide.
    • Choose the Position (3) of your template where the module should appear. In this example with the Cassiopeia template: Sidebar-right [sidebar-right].
    • Set Status (4) to Published. A new module is always unpublished.

Module Pretty Weather: title, position and status
  5. Click the tab Settings (1) and set where the weather data comes from:
    • Weather Information Provider (2): choose Open-Meteo.com if you do not want to request an API key. With OpenWeatherMap.org and OpenWeatherMap One Call API 4.0 the field Provider API Key appears, where you enter the key of your OpenWeatherMap account. The blue text above the field explains what each provider needs.
    • Units (3): Metric (Celsius), Imperial (Fahrenheit) or Standard (Kelvin).
    • Latitude (4) and Longitude (5): the coordinates of the location, for example 50.99833 and 5.86944 for Sittard. You find them by looking up the place in a map service.
    • Location name (optional) (6): the name for the placeholder {name}. Open-Meteo does not return a location name itself, so fill this in if you want to show the name.
    • Time between API calls (7): the minimum number of minutes before the module fetches the weather data again.
    • Debug (8): choose Yes to show the stored weather data and any error messages of the provider on the website. That output is only visible to users who may manage modules.

    Module Pretty Weather: tab Settings
  6. Click the tab Content (1). At the top you see the placeholders (2) you can use in your text: {temp} for the temperature, {feels_like} for the feels like temperature, {temp_min} and {temp_max} for the minimum and maximum temperature and {name} for the location name. At Default content (3), type the text that is always shown, for example: It is now {temp} °C in {name}. With the green plus button (4) at Conditional content you add a text that is only shown in certain weather.

    • Content (1): the text that is shown when the rules are met. You can use the placeholders here as well.
    • Type (2): the value the rule looks at: Temperature, Feels like, Minimum temperature or Maximum temperature.
    • Operator (3): the comparison, for example Greater than (>) or Less than or equal (<=).
    • Value (4): the number to compare with. Temperatures are rounded to whole degrees first.
    • With the green plus button (5) you add another rule. With more rules the text is only shown when all rules are met, for example greater than 15 and less than or equal to 25.
To the right of the rules are the buttons to add another conditional content or to remove this one. In the example the text is shown when it is warmer than 25 degrees.
